Yarn: Any worsted weight (I used Lion Brand Micro Spun)
Needles: US 4 (3.25 mm)
Gauge: 14 sts x 19 rows = 2 inches in St. st
(Obviously if you're using a different yarn you're not going to get gauge. Don't worry about it. As long as you're in the 5-6-7 sts per inch range, you'll be okay.)
Sizes
Preemie (small newborn, large newborn)
12" (13" , 14")
CO 72(78,84) sts.
Work St.st for 7(8,9) rnds.
Begin K1,P1 rib and work for 4(4,5) rnds.
In St.st, work 3(4,5) inches.
Begin decreasing.
Decrease rnds:
Rnd 1: *K 22(24,26) sts, K2tog, pm; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rnd 3: *K to 2 sts before marker, K2tog, sm; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rnd 4: Knit.
Repeat last 2 rows until 36(39,42) sts are left.
Work row 3 (decrease row) for every row until there are 3 sts left.
Thread yarn through last three sts, pull tight and weave in ends.
